In preparation for the upcoming season, the Pitman High School boy’s tennis team holds practice at Shertel Park in Pitman. During the team’s practice on Mar. 11, head coach Deborah Slencamp (left in picture #2, picture #14, #16, right in picture #34) worked with players Kevin Weller (center in picture #2, left picture #34), Alex Snow (right in picture #2), Luke Carpenter (left in picture #22, right in picture #26, right in picture #31), Matt Migeot (right in picture #22, center in picture #31), and Sam Langlas (left picture #1, left in picture #26, picture #27, left in picture #31) in practice games on one court. The coach participated in the games herself. Later, she had the players run sprints on half of a tennis court; the players ran from the far side of the court to the net, touched it with their racket and ran back multiple times.
On another court, the team’s top two players, David Shirley (right picture #1, picture #3, #5, #7) and Zack Kostagra (picture #4, #6, #8, #13, #15, #21, #24) played heated singles games against one another. Finally, on the remaining court, volunteer and former college tennis player John Dannenhauer (center in picture #10, center picture #11, right picture #12, picture #17, center picture #18, center picture #19, left picture #20, right picture #23, left picture #25, right picture #28, left picture #29, picture #30, picture #32) worked with beginning players Bailey Eslinger (picture #9, left picture #10, left picture #11, left picture #12, right picture #18, right picture #19, right picture #25, right picture #29) and Richard Amwake (right in picture #10, right picture #11, left picture #18, left picture #19, right picture #20, left picture #23, left picture #28) on many different aspects of their games, from swing to footing. The team practices at Shertel Park whenever the weather allows, at it did on this sunny day.
